Metamorphic AM Collaboration
Shaping Innovations for a Sustainable Future

Conify’s Involvement:
How far can radical thinking take us when considering existing design and assembly challenges? When the limitations of traditional manufacturing methods are removed, we are able to explore organic and free-form geometries that serve multiple functions!
In-line static mixers are a great example of complex assemblies used in several industries, ranging from polymer, plastic, pulp, food and energy, where low-shear blending and mixing of raw materials or ingredients need to be held at a constant temperature. Traditionally, they comprise a number of different elements, including housings and internal channel components, that are fabricated separately and then brazed or welded together. This laboursome process presents significant challenges to machinists looking to ensure high-quality channels and seals.
The braided static mixer designed by Metamorhic AM (https://www.metamorphic.am/) overcomes existing hurdles, but also incorporates additional functionality such as heat exchange. This is achieved through organic-shaped geometries that have been purposefully designed from the ground up with additive manufacturing considerations.
Τhis first-of-its-kind design was turned into reality and demonstrate the unique opportunities afforded in this space, LPBF technology was utilised by Conify!
Projects like this highlight the significance of close collaborations between materials/process experts and design specialists, which is vital in bringing AM-enabled innovations to market!
